J.K. Rowling has revealed she’s already started writing the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3.
Rowling told fans the news in an online Q&A hosted on the author’s website. “I’ve just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, Lethal White, and I’m now writing the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3,” Rowling said, referring to thrillers she writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
The third Fantastic Beasts film won’t be hitting theaters until 2020, while Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald comes out in just a few months.
Though Rowling did not provide any story details about Fantastic Beasts 3, she did discuss what her role is like as a producer on these movies. It sounds as though while the author does have creative input on the films, most of her collaboration comes early in the filmmaking process.
