After four years and three games, Square Enix Montreal is reportedly finished with the mobile Go series of games.
In an interview with PC Games Insider, Square Enix Montreal studio head Patrick Naud cites the premium pricing of the games for their relative lack of success in the mobile market. The three Go games produced by the developer are Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go and Deus Ex Go — all of which run for $4.99 on the App Store.
“The Go series was a great adventure for us as a studio. We’ve done the three games, we’ve seen the wind. The hardest element is making premium games on mobile. You’ve got more and more high-quality free titles so there are even fewer and fewer people inclined to try something that will not be free,” Naud said.
