Disney-Pixar’s latest sequel, Incredibles 2, had the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated film – and it isn’t even close.
Coming in during the lucrative Father’s Day weekend, Incredibles 2 earned $180 million in the domestic market across 4,410 theaters, according to Variety. The previous record was held by Finding Dory, another one of Pixar’s sequels that took forever to come out, which earned $135 million in its opening weekend in 2016.
Incredibles 2 also became eighth largest domestic opening of all time, overtaking another one of Disney’s films for the spot: last year’s Beauty and the Beast, which netted $174.6 million during its debut weekend.
