We’re rather spoiled by constant connection in the modern world, so when things stop working, it’s immediately noticable. That was the case for many Comcast internet users today, with random outages popping up all over the nation. The source of the problem, as it turns out, was a fiber cable being cut by one of Comcast’s partners.

In a provided statement (via CNBC), Comcast said that “one of Comcast’s large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers. It is currently affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers. We apologize and are working to get services restored as soon as possible.”

According to various statements provided by Comcast through the Comcast Cares Twitter account, the company currently has no timeline for when services may be restored.

As far as we can tell, the cut fiber line primarily affects those with Comcast or Xfinity services. Other users on competing networks like AT&T seem to be reporting no issues whatsoever.
