Jeremy Renner is joining the cast of the film adaptation of Spawn, based on the comics by Todd McFarlane.
Renner will star as the human detective Twitch Williams who helps in the fight against evil. Renner, a two-time Oscar nominee, is perhaps best known as Hawkeye in the Avengers series.
“The character doesn’t need to be a bodybuilder or GQ handsome,” McFarlane, who is also planning on writing and directing the movie, told Deadline. “I was looking for somebody who’s a person you’ve met before; I needed someone who can pull off the grief of an average human being. I’ve seen Jeremy do that in more than a few of his movies.”
