With Dragon Ball Super’s animated run ending earlier this year, fans had been wondering what the subject of the already announced movie might be. Rumors had been guessing everything from a return of Cell to another new villain introduction, but TOEI Animation has announced today that former movie villain Broly will be headlining this December’s film.

The movie’s poster shows Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan forms, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly beneath them, and…Yamcha above them? It seems like the desert-thief-turned-baseball-player has a pivotal role in this battle of people way stronger than him.

The announcement of the movie included a message from Akira Toriyama, as well. Since Broly was an invention of the non-canon Dragon Ball Z movies, Toriyama had little involvement in creating him, but thought it would be cool for overseas fans to see the character now.

“He’s an incredibly strong Saiyan who only appeared in the old anime movies, and I apparently at least drew the designs for him,” Toriyama wrote, “but I had practically no involvement in the anime at the time, so I had totally forgotten about the story content.”

You can catch the teaser clip below, which shows Goku and Broly clashing briefly.

The movie is scheduled to release in December of this year in Japan and will likely follow in the west in 2019, though no announcement has been made.
