Obsidian Entertainment’s massive RPG Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is big enough as it is without adding new DLC, but that’s just what’s happening. A brand new expansion pack, Pillars of Eternity 2’s first, in fact, is coming this summer, and it’s called Beast of Winter. Dropping on August 2, it’s dropping just in time for a cold winter chill to befall all players.

Beast of Winter takes the Watcher and his crew to the Deadfire Archipelago, where the Watcher is thought to be the “end of all things.” So those who worship the god of cold, Rymrgand, have asked the Watcher to “fulfill their destiny,” according to the DLC”s official synopsis. That probably doesn’t portend anything positive, but it’s probably going to mean a whole lot of cool stuff is coming.

There’s also a new update in the form of a 2.0 patch, which will be free for everyone to download in addition to the next free DLC, the “Deck of Many Things.” Update 2.0 will squash various bugs and add new challenge modes that you can play through and test your mettle. It’s the biggest free DLC the game has seen thus far, and will follow a strange merchant ship that’s just arrived in Deadfire looking to sell a swath of magical items.

All of these updates and lots of other goodies are coming on August 2, so make sure you clear your calendar for this massive beginning of new content coming to the game. If you haven’t yet begun the game at all, like me, you may want to take the next few weeks off.
