In the early 2000s, video game adaptations of comic book movies were everywhere. From the surprisingly brilliant Spider-Man 2 to forgettable titles like Captain America: Super Soldier and Thor: God of Thunder, reception to these games was mixed at best.
Movie adaptations have always been treated with suspicion, and with good reason. At worst, they’re cynical cash grabs, at best, the odds are stacked against them thanks to tight timelines to hit a film’s release, sometimes suffocating restrictions in terms of content and approvals, and high costs outside production. And yet, given the richness of some of the worlds we’re talking about, there exists bountiful potential that has yet to be fully explored.
