We knew Batwoman would be a focus in this fall’s large Arrow-Verse crossover event running between Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash, but we now now this origin story will give way to a full series. In a story on TV Line, The CW revealed Batwoman is a forthcoming standalone series penned by Carline Dries, who previously worked on The Vampire Diaries.

The Bat family almost has too many members to count now, but Batwoman (also known as Katherine “Kate” Kane) has always been one of the more interesting players within it, often veering away from the typical superhero action to focus on detective work. She already has a tie with the Arrow-verse in Margaret “Maggie” Sawyer, a long-time love interest of Kane’s, who has been in episodes of Supergirl.

We’ll have to wait to see what The CW does with this character, who has yet to be cast. The official description for the show reads:

No official time frame has been given for the show, but all odds point toward it debuting in 2019.
