Fortnite is insanely popular, as we all know. That’s no secret. But did you realize it had earned over $1 billion so far via in-game purchases? People have bought so many things in Fortnite that they’ve racked up a billion dollars in revenue, according to a new report via market research firm Superdata.

Fortnite: Battle Royale doesn’t cost a thing to jump in and play, so folks are spending all their cash on Battle Passes and cosmetics, which is a pretty scary thing to think about. Epic Games is swimming in cash that folks spend on things that, for the most part, don’t really change anything about their gaming sessions.

The report includes revenue across all of Fortnite’s platforms as well, including both console and mobile versions, noting that, unsurprisingly, battle royale games have become indubitably the most popular game genre across all platforms, for better or for worse.

But there’s a silver lining here for creators in addition to Epic Games, especially since the company previously increased the revenue share split for creators utilizing the Unreal Engine Marketplace and attributed the ability to do so to Fortnite’s undeniable success. The growth is good news for everyone, but it sure is something to behold, especially when we’re out here struggling to make it on minimum wage or better out here in the real world. Still, you’ve gotta hand it to Epic Games for really bringing it with this kind of success. It looks like we’ll be seeing far more from the Fortnite train for months, if not years, to come.
