During a recent shareholder’s meeting, Nintendo’s senior executive officer Susumu Tanaka is “looking to release around 20 to 30 indie games on Nintendo Switch per week.” And while Nintendo has already made it clear indie success on the eShop is core to the Switch, are developers happy about this emphasis on more weekly releases, or do they see this as a cause for concern over Nintendo’s digital storefront?
A number of developers and publishers who have already published games via the Switch eShop, and may have future releases planned, spoke to IGN about Nintendo’s endeavors. Representatives for Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight), Devolver Digital, Image & Form (SteamWorld Dig 2), Team17, and more offered their takes on if this initiative may overcrowd the marketplace, if Nintendo can do anything to improve promotion on the eShop, and whether such a plan might affect these developers and publishers’ interest in bringing games to the Switch.
