Few things are as perplexing to me as the gaming world’s fascination with menial simulation games. Farming Simulator, Euro Truck Simulator, and even Street Cleaning Simulator are all real games that people play for dozens of hours. Goat Simulator, the game that majorly put Coffee Stain Studios on the map following the modest success of their tower defense meets FPS hybrid series, Sanctum, was a nearly direct parody of those very games.

Now, with Satisfactory, the studio has seemingly come full-circle. Instead of being a parody on realistic simulation games, it sprints in the other direction by letting players craft intricate and elaborate factories that slowly expand and grow in both size and complexity. It’s a bit tedious, sure, but it’s also a bit remarkable in its own way.
