Jeff Ward will be returning as Deke Shaw in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, according to EW’s exclusive studio interview at San Diego Comic-Con.

Ward’s character, the grandson of Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) from a dystopian timeline in the future will become a series regular in Season 6.

We learned in May that Agents of SHIELD was renewed for a sixth season, but will not be returning until 2019. The newest season will run for 13 episodes, which is down from the usual 22-episode seasons ABC has ordered in the past.

IGN just released exclusive news that Clark Gregg will be directing the premiere episode of season 6. The Season 6 premiere, “Missing Pieces,” is written by SHIELD showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
