AMC’s The Walking Dead is an entertainment juggernaut that simply won’t die. For years, it has been one of if not the most popular TV show on cable and has millions of dedicated fans and multiple lucrative spinoff series and video games. With the help of the folks at Skydance Interactive, the zombie drama will find its way onto the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in the form of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. First announced during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Saints & Sinners is the first official VR experience with the Walking Dead license. We got the opportunity to sit down with Guy Costantini, Vice President of Global Marketing for Skydance Interactive, to talk about the game during this year’s SDCC.
Costantini explained how the project came to be as well as the team’s excitement to take the franchise to a place like New Orleans. The title Saints & Sinners takes its meaning from both the events depicted in the game as well as the city that hosts the action. New Orleans is known worldwide as a place to have a good time and enjoy some debauchery, in addition to being the home of the Saints professional football team.
While Costantini talked about the game, he sat in front of a bloody axe. The axe is meant to represent both the good and bad of the events depicted within the game. It was once used by firefighters, a group of people who are universally seen as the protectors of society, but has now become a tool of zombie dismissal. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is scheduled to arrive for VR platforms some time in 2019.
