There are so many aspects that go into making a video game top notch. One of the most subtle, yet extremely important aspects of creating an encompassing experience are all the little sound effects and background noises that players can often overlook. However, if someone didn’t go through the process of making these noises, either by going out into the world and recording sounds or processing sine waves on a computer the gaming experience would be nowhere near as enthralling. Fortunately for fans of Warframe, Digital Extremes has the one and only George Spanos heading their sound design department.
I got a chance to catch up with George at TennoCon 2018 to chat about the process he went through to create the new soundscapes for Warframe’s next open-world environment, Fortuna. We also go over the process for building environmental ambiance for so many different worlds and how Fortuna’s new chain-gang theme songs came into being. I take the opportunity to audition for some for voice acting work and get a few pointers on how to land a VO gig in the industry for reals. You can check out the full interview below for the full story.
Warframe is available now for free on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 and a Nintendo Switch version is now in the works to be launched at a later date.
