Arizona Sunshine from Vertigo Games still serves as one of the pinnacle virtual reality experiences after releasing in December 2016 and the development team is expanding its reach with a new venture. Vertigo Games has revealed Vertigo Arcades, a location-based VR publisher and technology provider. The first project from the new entity is the location-based version of Arizona Sunshine.

“Vertigo Arcades leverages its existing network of developers and physical footprint to grow the out-of-home VR revenue for our partners,” said Managing Director Richard Stitselaar in the announcement’s press release. “From developer tools to in-arcade marketing and promotions, we’re working to make this market more accessible for consumers, VR arcades, and VR game developers alike. It’s our belief that larger, warehouse-scale experiences of VR games like Arizona Sunshine – LB VR Edition are a key part of expanding consumer interest and increasing the business viability of VR development.”

Already, Vertigo Arcades is serving 300+ VR arcades in 40 countries worldwide and is teaming up with Nomadic, SpringboardVR, VR Junkies, Private Label VR, Ctrl V, Valve, Synthesis VR, VRX Networks, and VRotein.

Location-based VR offers up an opportunity for deeply immersive and largely untethered virtual reality experiences, The Void being one of the most well-known experiences around. Another key to this style of VR is that casual consumers can experience high-quality virtual reality without having to spend on high-end computers and VR HMDs.
