Blumhouse and Sony Pictures are teaming up for a feature film of the long-running ABC show Fantasy Island with Jeff Wadlow directing, according to Deadline.

Sony will control the rights to the Aaron Spelling TV series that ran from 1977-1984 with Blumhouse co-financing the film.

Although the original series is known for coming off cheesy, Fantasy Island often dealt with dark themes and the supernatural as visitors went to the island to live out their fantasies. It ran for seven seasons, completing a total of 152 episodes.

Wadlow, known for Kick-Ass 2 recently teamed with Blumhouse on Truth or Dare which grossed $100 million worldwide, having only a $5 million budget. Wadlow will be writing Fantasy Island with his Truth or Dare co-writers, Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs.
