Last year’s Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 was the first time developer CI Games truly took all three parts of this series’ complicated name into consideration. The game offered a trio of viable playstyles: sniping from afar, stealthy infiltration, and brazenly rushing in guns blazing. It wasn’t good.
For its next game, the title is getting longer but the focus is getting narrowed. CI Games has revealed Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, and it only concerns itself with the sniping side of things. Contracts‘s namesake comes from a contracts system where the player is tasked with eliminating a specific target in each level. There are also secondary objectives for bonus payouts, and CI Games emphasizes that this is where people will be compelled to replay stages to maximize their productivity.
CI Games CEO Marek Tymiński admits the studio botched its last game. He says “We were too ambitious in terms of the scope of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, but we’ve learned from our missteps.” Tymiński also states that Contracts drops an open-world structure for settings in the Siberian wilderness that lend themselves to open-ended gameplay. This applies to both single- and multiplayer modes, although CI Games has not yet detailed anything regarding multiplayer.
Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts is currently scheduled to release in 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
