It’s safe to say that a lot of Marvel fans are looking to Sony’s upcoming Venom movie with mixed emotions. As great as it is to see Eddie Brock making his way back to the big screen, the fact that this movie seems intent on retelling Venom’s origin story with little or no involvement from Spider-Man is perplexing. How do you even get Venom without Spider-Man and remain even remotely faithful to the comics? Can Venom ever truly exist as an independent character? Well, if his new comic book series is any indication, the answer to that second question is a resounding yes.
