SNK has announced and released a teaser for a new game in their Samurai Shodown series. The short teaser begins with some story setup and then shows gameplay, complete with cinematic clashes, toward the second half. You can check out the teaser below.
Much like King of Fighters XIV and the recently-released SNK Heroines, SNK has veered away from the sprite-based fighter in favor of 3D models once again. While this isn’t the first time Samurai Shodown has gone 3D, with games like Samurai Shodown 64, this time it appears to be locked to a 2D plane with 3D graphics.
The trailer shows series veterans Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Galford, and more. Based on KOFXIV’s roster, it’s expected to be fairly big. While no consoles were announce, PlayStation 4 is a likely bet. The game looking appreciably better than SNK Heroines might mean Switch is off the table.
The title, Samurai Spirits, is in-line with how SNK named the series in Japan. It seems possible that SNK is looking to unify the disparate names worldwide with the new game.
