That bastion of early announcements, the Korean Video Game Ratings Board, has issued certificates to PS4 releases of two of Konami’s classic Castlevania titles: Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, under the title of Castlevania Requiem.
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood was first released in 1993 for the PC Engine. It tells the story of Ricther Belmont, who treads the boards of Dracula’s castle in efforts to save his abducted love, Annette. Rondo of Blood received praise at the time for its great visuals, deep sense of adventure and multiple pathways and characters. It would be remade for the SNES as Castlevania Dracula X/Castlevania: Vampire’s Kiss.
No introduction necessary, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the 1997 sequel to Rondo of Blood. Launching on the PlayStation, SOTN sees Alucard, son of Dracula, journey into his father’s homestead in Richter’s footprints. Featuring amazing music and animation, a huge map, great bosses and a plethora of secrets, SOTN is thought of by many fans as one of the greatest video games of all-time.
Whilst we’re yet to know exactly what form Requiem will take, it’s entirely possible that we could be seeing another release of The Dracula X Chronicles, which combined the two titles for the Sony PSP, tweaking the titles and adding new features, voice-acting and sound effects. This is purely guesswork on my part, however.
