Nobuo Uematsu isn’t just a legendary video game composer: he’s a bonafide prodigy. Like Prince, another musical titan, Uematsu is a self-taught musician that quickly catapulted into stardom at a young age and never really stopped creating. The Prince comparisons continue when you account for the fact that Uematsu even has his own kickass band.
He’s been creating tunes for classics like the Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger for decades, but due to recent health concerns he’s taking a leave of absence. As explained on his personal blog, Uematsu is ceasing work due to an undisclosed illness. He elaborates that he’s not able to operate at a full capacity, and as a result he needs to spend some time recuperating and reevaluating whether or not it’s possible to continue working.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that the man deserves a rest. He’s created countless amounts of life-changing works and inspired many. We wish him the best in his recovery.
