When mass layoffs at Telltale Games were confirmed last week, questions remained about the fate of its currently ongoing final season of The Walking Dead, and whether it would reach its conclusion. The developer now says that it’s “actively working towards” finishing remaining episodes.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season is designed to wrap up the story of protagonist Clementine, which began almost six years ago with the advent of Telltale’s first, critically acclaimed Walk Dead season. The concluding chapter was intended to span four episodes, only one of which has been released to date. Unsurprisingly, last week’s news cast serious doubt on the remaining planned episodes ever seeing the light of day.

Further reports from ex-staff and collaborators over the weekend seemed to confirm that the series was indeed cancelled, and unlikely to be completed given that the entire Walking Dead team had been laid off. In a new statement released on Twitter, however, Telltale has now offered official word on the series future, saying that “multiple potential partners have stepped forward to express interest in helping to see the The Final Season through to completion”.
