Blizzard president and co-founder Mike Morhaime is shifting to a new role and his successor is already lined up. Morhaime, who has long been a face of Blizzard, will step down but “remain a strategic advisor.” The new president is going to be World of Warcraft executive producer J. Allen Brack.

“I want to thank all of the talented and hardworking people at Blizzard for their dedication, creativity, and passion,” said Morhaime. “It has been a privilege to lead this team. I’m also very grateful to Blizzard’s player community for their support.”
Brack has been with Blizzard for 12 years, and he’s best known for his contributions to WoW. (Here he is announcing World of Warcraft Classic.) “Blizzard was founded on the promise of making great games, and I plan to continue this fierce commitment to quality, our community, and our purpose,” he said in a press release. “I couldn’t be more excited about what’s next given the strength of our pipeline.”
Morhaime and Brack shared more personal messages in a blog post. Of note: Brack says the teams are currently “working on more games now than at any point in Blizzard’s history.”
Considering that Morhaime has been with Blizzard for almost three decades, he’s due some rest.
