The latest trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming Glass, which stars Samuel L. Jackson as the eponymous Mr. Glass, just launched and it reveals a bit more of what to expect from the director’s twisted take on the superhero genre.
For those who haven’t seen Shyamalan’s critically well-received 2016 film, Split, spoilers: the new film features James McAvoy as a young man afflicted with multiple personalities who also has one final personality that is imbued with superhuman abilities, known as the Beast. At the end of Split, it is revealed that the film also takes place within the same universe as Shyamalan’s underappreciated film from 2000, Unbreakable which first introduced Samuel L. Jackson as the villainous mastermind Mr. Glass and Bruce Willis as the super-powered David Dunn.
Based on the new trailer, it seems the film will center on these three extraordinary individuals locked in an institution by a doctor (played by Sarah Paulson) who believes they are deluded in the belief that they have superpowers. With the mad genius he possesses, it seems Mr. Glass will forge an alliance with the Beast to escape, and then fight Willis’s David Dunn to prove to the world that supers do, in fact, exist. But you don’t have to take my word for it, you can see the trailer below for yourself.
Shyamalan’s twist on the superhero genre comes to theatres January 18.
