Ridley Scott is planning a sequel to his Oscar-winning epic Gladiator, which hit theaters 18 years ago.
According to Deadline, Scott wants to direct the sequel with a script from Peter Craig, who co-wrote the final two Hunger Games films and the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.
Due to the original film’s ending, Russell Crowe will not be back to star as Maximus Decimus Meridius, his Oscar-winning role. Instead, the new film will reportedly focus on Lucius, the son of Lucilla, who was played by Connie Nielsen.
