Showtime has officially announced a sequel series to Penny Dreadful, called Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

John Logan will act as creator, writer and executive producer of City of Angels — he acted in those roles in the original Penny Dreadful series. Michael Aguilar will serve as executive producer, James Bagley as co-executive producer, and production is expected to begin sometime in 2019.

City of Angels will act as a “spiritual descendant” of the story from Penny Dreadful that was set in Victorian-era London. However, this show will begin in 1938 Los Angeles, CA and will infuse Mexican-American folklore and social tension. The story will be rooted in the conflict between characters associated with the deity Santa Muerte and others that are allied with the Devil. New occult myths and moral dilemmas will be created within what Showtime is describing as a genuine historical backdrop.
