Red Dead Redemption 2 is a critical and commercial success by any definition. It’s racking up perfect and near-perfect review scores, and it’s also selling a ton of copies. Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has an interesting statistic that nicely frames how well Red Dead Redemption 2 is doing.

As part of its quarter two fiscal results, Take-Two mentions that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold-in more units in its first eight days than the original Red Dead Redemption sold in its first eight years. Red Dead Redemption released in 2010, so we can safely assume those are lifetime sales. Currently, Red Dead Redempion 2 is sitting at approximately 17 million sold-in units.

Unsurprisingly, Take-Two boasts a very good quarter. Buoyed by Red Dead Redemption 2, the new NBA 2K19, and the ever-reliable GTA Online, Take-Two increased its projections for the full year and expects to set company records for net bookings and adjusted operating cash flow. Arthur’s leading them straight into a gold mine.
