Alert: one of the best 240Hz monitors is available at half price in what’s perhaps the best Black Friday monitor deal thus far. The LG 27GK750F-B doesn’t have a memorable name, but it’s the first 27 inch monitor we’ve seen to boast a ludicrously high 240Hz refresh rate. This makes it brilliant for fast-paced and competitive games like Counter-Strike, Fortnite or Black Ops 4, and now it’s available for £210 after launching at £400 earlier this year.

If your PC is capable of churning out that many frames per second, you should see the same kind of boost to responsiveness by moving from 144Hz to 240Hz as you did from upgrading from 60Hz to 144Hz. It’s not quite as dramatic a difference, to be sure, but when we tested it, it did feel easier to track moving targets and react quickly to suddenly appearing enemies. Streamers and esports professionals swear by 240Hz monitors for both casual and competitive play, and you don’t need to compete at a high level to notice the benefits.

There are other 240Hz monitors on the market that scratch the same itch, but most are 24 or 25-inch monitors which some gamers find a little too small if you’re sitting at a healthy distance from the screen. I personally found that the larger size makes it easier to pick out distant enemies, and the LG monitor includes various modes which highlight dark areas and change the colour balance to make spotting enemies even easier at a glance. A decent contrast ratio, low 1ms response time and a 400-nit peak brightness complete the package. The monitor is also nicely adjustable, with tilt, pivot and height adjustment, to make sure you can keep it at a comfortable angle.
