Despite the announcement on Tuesday that a new Ghostbusters movie is in the works at Sony, Dan Aykroyd let it slip this past November that a third movie was in fact in development, reported by THR.
In an interview with Dan Rather in November 2018, Aykroyd – one of the writers and stars of the original Ghostbusters movies – said, “I think we have a story that’s going to work and it’s being written right now by really good filmmakers. I can’t say their names.”
One of the writers Aykroyd was speaking of ends up being Jason Reitman who will be helming the film, and also happens to be the son of the original Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman, who will also be a producer for the third film. Gil Kenan from Monster House is also working on the script.
