Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to merge Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram’s messaging functionality so users will be able to message between these apps.
As reported by The New York Times, this move will reportedly require thousands of Facebook employees in order to reconfigure how all three apps messaging systems function “at their most basic levels.” All three will remain as standalone apps, and the unification of their messaging systems is expected to be completed by the end of 2019, or possibly early 2020.
“We’re working on making more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted and considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks,” said Facebook in a statement. “
