The Screen Actors Guild Awards were distributed Sunday, and, only somewhat surprisingly, Black Panther won the top award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film’s star, Chadwick Boseman, referenced a Nina Simone song in his acceptance speech, “Young, Gifted, and Black.” This is more than just good news for fans of the film. It also bolsters Black Panther’s odds for a potential Oscar win for Best Picture. Before, the idea of a superhero flick actually winning Best Picture was a pipe dream or a pleasant distraction. After the SAG Award win, it’s looking like – dare we dream?? – a real possibility.
