In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, matches are won by milliseconds. A quick grab here, a well-timed jump, a perfect shield… these things add up and can massively influence the result of a battle. A good controller isn’t going to make you automatically better, but it will definitely give you an advantage. And while purists will tell you a fight stick is the only way to compete in other fighting games, Super Smash Brothers’ simplified control scheme makes them impractical.
