Following earlier reports about a smaller and cheaper Nintendo Switch, there’s now fresh talk of two new Switch models planned for release “as early as this summer,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
We’re expecting to learn more about the hardware in a few short months at E3 2019, but the basic idea is that one new version of the Switch will tout “enhanced features” over the current model, while the other new Switch will cut costs by stripping back features like HD Rumble in the controllers.
Nintendo will reportedly target “avid gamers” with the higher-end model and views the cheaper Switch model as more of a “successor” to the 3DS, according to the publication. “People who have used the devices say they aren’t just similar-looking new versions with a higher or lower performance.”
I’m dying to know what these things look like and, given Nintendo’s past, what they’ll be named. As a happy Switch owner since launch, I’ll probably be looking to upgrade depending on the price.
