Starting this week, Blackout players will have a chance to relive some of their favorite moments from the wonderful cheesefest The Rock. The new battle royale map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is none other than Alcatraz. It’ll be playable first on PS4 on April 2, with Xbox One and PC to follow.

More than just another map, Black Ops 4 is also about to host a free trial for Blackout on all platforms. The battle royale mode will be free to play from April 2 to April 30, though you will need either Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus if you’re thinking of giving the console version a whirl. That’s a while!

While the free access promotion is in effect, all Blackout players will be matched together and any progress you make in solos, duos, and quads will carry over to the full version of Black Ops 4.

It’s unclear if and when Blackout will go permanently free-to-play, but if this trial pulls in great numbers, maybe that day will arrive sooner than later. Tough competition out there for our time.
