Disney’s remake of Dumbo topped the box office this weekend with an estimated $45 million take, according to Box Office Mojo.
Disney was anticipating an opening of over $50 million, but the film, directed by Tim Burton and starring Colin Farrell, fell short of studio expectations. Dumbo also took in $71 million internationally for a worldwide total of $116 million.
Us, which launched with $71 million last weekend, took the second place spot, earning an additional $33.6 million. The film’s total now stands at $128 million domestic and $174 million worldwide.
