Insomniac’s Spider-Man was a great game. In any year that wasn’t 2018, it would have been a serious Game of the Year contender. However, when those discussions came around last year, Spider-Man got overshadowed by God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2. That’s not going to happen next time, assuming the game on the cover of this year’s Game Infarcer is real. Which, of course, it isn’t.

In this video, I sit down with fellow editor Jeff Cork to chat with Zander Cannon – the artist behind the image on the cover of our annual parody magazine. Cannon talks about the design process, finally getting paid to draw Spider-Man, and how to hide jokes that almost no one will ever notice. If you are interested in seeing how an image like this progresses from start to finish, this is the video for you!

If you like this art, you should definitely check out Cannon’s other work, including the monster-prison comic Kaijumax and the Eisner-nominated Heck.
