Today we conclude our look at each of the founding MCU Avengers and how their stories have led them to their final confrontation with Thanos. Here’s Captain America and his journey to Avengers: Endgame.
“What makes you happy?”
Steve Rogers doesn’t know how to answer this question when it’s posed to him by Sam Wilson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The thing is, we know the answer even if Steve is facing a crisis of doubt at the time. Captain America lives to make the world better for the rest of us, and far too often that means he has to make personal sacrifices with far-reaching effects on his life. And he’s O.K. with that.
That’s because Cap is a truly selfless hero, and we’re lucky to have him as a paragon of what’s good in a particularly selfish moment in our history. In an era of party over country and me over us, Captain America should remind everyone of what really matters.
