An official Star Trek animated series has officially been greenlit by CBS Television Studios and Nickelodeon.

Reported by Variety, this kid-friendly, CG-animated series will follow “a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation.”

The show will come from Eye Animation Productions (CBS’ animation division), Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive vice president of animation production and development at Nickelodeon Ramsey Naito will oversee the show.

We previously reported that CBS and Nickelodeon were nearing a deal for a Star Trek animated series, coming from Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman and writers Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman, known for Trollhunters, The LEGO movie, and Ninjago. The Hagemans, Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will all serve as executive producers, with Aaron Baiers as co-executive producer.
