Back in early 2016, we flew to Tokyo and spent a week visiting Square Enix to learn about Final Fantasy XV and the history of the series. One of the developers we met on that trip was Final Fantasy XV’s lead game designer Wan Hazmer. Hazmer left Square Enix after shipping the game and moved back to Malaysia to form a new indie studio, Metronomik, and the team is creating a music action game called No Straight Roads.

On the latest episode of The Game Informer Show podcast, we spoke with Hazmer about what he learned after working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XV, why he was so driven to create No Straight Roads, and how developers in Malaysia are eager to create their own new IP instead of working on outsourced projects like designing monsters in Dark Souls.
