Since Borderlands 2 dropped in 2012, there have been two Destinys, two Divisions, one Warframe and roughly one half of an Anthem (let’s be honest) that have launched and battled it out for the loot shooter crown to varying levels of success (with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel also squeezed into the mix). Yet with the upcoming release of Borderlands 3, the team at Gearbox Software remains confident that it’s packing the right kind of firepower to stand out among what has become an increasingly populated genre in recent years.
“We’ve always had a pretty strong focus on story and character, which we’re bringing in spades,” says lead enemy designer, Josh Jeffcoat. “But also, we still have more guns than anybody else by an absurd margin. And the things the guns can do is insane; you’re never gonna see that kind of stuff coming from our competitors.”
