We know them as competitors in the gaming space, but today Sony and Microsoft announced a partnership that involves the companies working together and leveraging their unique strengths to explore some tech-related issues.
The press release says both companies signed a memorandum of understanding that declares an intent to collaborate on future cloud-based solutions that will help both sides with their game and content-streaming services.
Before you get too excited: Don’t expect a joint Xbox/PlayStation console to come out of the deal. The scope of this cooperation deals with things like semiconductors and Microsoft’s Azure A.I., and cloud technology. It allows Sony and Microsoft to work together and share information to solve problems that are currently facing the tech industry as a whole. In short, the two companies can innovate in ways they couldn’t alone, and everyone benefits.
