Tonight’s Pokemon press conference was light on game material, but we did get a confirmation and short teaser for a brand new mobile project. Called Pokemon Masters, this spin-off will let players create their dream team of master trainers from past games to battle players with teams of Pokemon. That doesn’t sound as brutal as I would have wanted, but I guess it is something.
As the official Pokemon Twitter account revealed, “Fun fact: Pokemon Masters began with a suggestion from Ken Sugimori of GameFreak, who wanted to create a game featuring all past and present Pokémon Trainers from the video games. Stay tuned for more on Pokémon Masters. We’ll share additional info as soon as we can!”
The short snippet of gameplay showed what looked like a typical mobile game mixed with the turn-based RPG mechanics of the main series. I don’t know if it will be free-to-play or a traditional paid model, but the title will be heading to the Google Play and App Stores in the 2019 calendar year. We’ll likely hear more about Masters as we inch closer to release.
