Dwayne Johnson’s long-gestating Black Adam movie has reportedly taken a big step closer to becoming a reality.

Variety reports (via the Observer) that filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Non-Stop, Unknown) is in negotiations to direct the Shazam! spin-off. Adam Sztykiel (Rampage) penned the most recent draft of the screenplay.

Johnson and Collet-Serra recently worked together on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, due out in 2020.

According to the trade, “Johnson was very impressed with how Collet-Serra handled himself on such a large production and was surprised how seamlessly he was able to transition from darker material to much lighter material with such ease. Once production ended on Jungle Cruise, the decision to name him the director of Black Adam was an easy one to make.”
