Good news for fans of Panem; the Hunger Games is coming back with a prequel book set 64 years before the original Hunger Games novel, and a film adaptation is almost certain to follow.
According to author Suzanne Collins, the novel is set to be released on May 19, 2020, and will take place in the “reconstruction period 10 years after the war,” which led to the creation of the Hunger Games, themselves. The news comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter.
Although details concerning the plot or characters have not yet been revealed, Collins did hint at thematic elements present in the prequel; “The reconstruction period… commonly referred to as the Dark Days – as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet – provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
