Even more than a year after the end of Dark Nights: Metal, the ramifications of that massive Batman crossover are still being felt throughout the DC Universe. Today DC announced a new miniseries called Tales From the Dark Multiverse, offering readers an even closer look at the twisted realm where nightmares become reality.
Similar to Marvel’s What If? franchise, Tales From the Dark Multiverse will explore alternate takes on classic DC storylines. Each standalone, 48-page issue will be set in a different world in the Dark Multiverse, showing what might have happened if these stories had played out differently.
So far DC has revealed the plot and creative team for two of these issues. Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Batman – Knightfall #1 will revisit the 1993 Knightfall crossover, where Bruce Wayne had his back broken by Bane and Jean-Paul Valley took over the mantle of Batman. In the real DC Universe, Bruce eventually recovered and took back the mantle. In this alternate universe, Valley remains in power and becomes a tyrannical figure called Saint Batman. 30 years after the events of Knightfall, the only hope to free Gotham is a new figure called the Son of Bane.
