Nintendo has said that the Switch Lite will be the only new hardware launched this year, squashing rumours of a more powerful Switch ‘Pro’ device.
Talking to CNET, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser commented that the Nintendo Switch Lite, due for release in September, will reportedly be the only new Nintendo Switch hardware to be launched this holiday. Bowser said the original Switch hardware won’t get an upgrade right now.
Nintendo Switch “Pro” Delayed?
This goes against a report from The Wall Street Journal, which stated that both a cheaper and “enhanced” version of the Nintendo Switch would be released as early as this summer. While the Nintendo Switch Lite misses that summer window, it does match the specifications reported by The Wall Street Journal of a redesigned, cheaper console lacking vibration and positioned as a 3DS successor. With that in mind, there’s still potential that the publication’s reports of an upgraded version of the Switch could still prove credible, with a new console arriving after 2019.
