Fans at Netflix’s panel for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance got an early preview of episode 1 at Comic-Con on Friday. While reviews for the new Lisa Henson-produced series are still embargoed until closer to the show’s release, we wanted to share our spoiler-free first impressions of the premiere.
First things first: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is gorgeous – the sets are meticulously detailed and jaw-droppingly immersive, creating a living, breathing world that feels fantastically lived-in. It’s the subtle touches that really sell the entire production, from the multitude of fascinating creatures that inhabit the mystical world of Thra, to the dreamlike cities, caves, and landscapes that the Gelflings call home. The Henson Company has always excelled at world-building and creating thoughtful mythologies that resonate with adults and kids alike, and that’s especially true of Age of Resistance, which deepens the movie’s universe in clever ways while never losing sight of what made the original so memorable.
