Defiant Development has announced that it is ceasing work on any new projects, laying off staff, and switching the studio’s sole focus to supporting its existing games like Hand of Fate 2.
In an open letter, the studio said its iterative approach to development was “risky,” and that overall it wasn’t able to adapt to the current video games market.
Defiant has also worked with other developers on projects like DmC: Devil May Cry and Far Cry 5, but not all its partnerships went smoothly. Earlier this year Deck 13 and publisher CI Games fired Defiant from working on a sequel to Lords of the Fallen after Defiant’s work on a key milestone was deemed “inadequate.”
