Zombieland: Double Tap director Ruben Fleischer has opened up about the reason behind the 10-year gap between movies, saying that the creative team “couldn’t figure out the right story to tell.”
The filmmaker, who made his feature-length directorial debut with Zombieland a decade ago, revealed that the script-writing process for the sequel took some time, as they wanted to make sure that it was worth reuniting the zombie-slaying squad for a second outing.
“I think we all wanted to stretch our legs a little bit and try different things,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I think we were all excited to do other stuff. But, the other thing is, we just couldn’t figure out the right story to tell. It took a minute to get a story that we all felt was worthy, to come back to Zombieland for.
